Joint Training Institute

The Joint Training Institute has a multi-part mission. Overall, its aim is to create a culture in which the best-available training will be provided or accessible to every employee, with the following goals:

Increase the employee’s value to DWP and to the City
Increase the employee’s opportunity for development and advancement
Improve the employee’s participation in the training and development process
Enhance the overall knowledge, skills, and competencies of the DWP workforce
Improve delivery of services to DWP’s customers

The Joint Training Institute is also charged with the task of helping to create and maintain a productive and positive environment of labor-management partnership that continually educates and trains the workforce.

JSI Promotes Safety, Ergo Awareness

We have been very busy at the JSI with the New Field Ergonomics Workshop. Jim Van Sickle and I are opening most of the workshops that we are scheduling in the different districts around the City. It has proved to be satisfying even if it has been labor intensive for the Administrators. More...

DWP Trainers Kick Off Certificate Training

DWP trainers from across divisions and disciplines participated in the JTI’s Train-the-Trainer kick-off meeting on June 21. The JTI’s Train-the-Trainer Certification will provide a solid framework around which to build a certifi cation program for employees whose jobs revolve around training other employees in craft, apprenticeship, technical, and other skill-building activities and programs. DWP Welcomes Student Engineers

DWP rolled out its welcome mat for 20 student engineers who participated in the pilot Student Engineer Program (SEP). The pilot SEP was designed and implemented this past summer by a Joint Labor Management (JLM) Committee under the leadership of Frank Miramontes, President of IBEW Local 18, and Jim McDaniel, Assistant General Manager – Water.
